This class is a fusion of breath work, yin yoga and qigong aimed at balancing yin Qi and crafted according to the seasons. Qigong is an ancient Taoist form to cultivate vitality and balance, through breath and movement. It is a subtle fluid moving practice linked to the 5 elements and Chinese medicine aimed to guide our awareness into the sensations of the body, to gently support the mind to surrender to the breath in order to experience life fully in a moving form. It marries beautifully into the stillness of a yin practice as the body and mind are stable and ready to feel into the shape. We will end with pranayama or meditation, providing steadiness, exploration and time to process life.

Accessible to all students, diversity is welcome.


Students will need to bring their own mat and towel and follow COVID safe practices.

ABOUT SAMANTHA

Samantha is an authorised Dharma teacher in the Insight Meditation tradition, Yoga teacher, and a Practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

During Samantha’s almost 30 years of meditation practice, she has had the privilege of spending extended time with a number of Buddhist teachers including His Eminence Dzogchen Rinpoche, Zen Master Hogen-san and Alan Wallace and is blessed to have the ongoing guidance and support of her much loved teacher –  Christopher Titmuss.

Earth Element: End of Summer Harvest

A five week block of Qigong/Yin programmed according to the seasons and accessible to all students. To get the most out of the session coming to the block is recommended as it is sequential but I understand that sometimes it is tricky to come to all sessions, so casual attendance welcome.

We should be feeling ripe, replenished and stable. The excitement of full Summer has subsided and there is a moist stability and steadiness in nature and within us. It is a time in nature where produce is being harvested and we feel abundant and nourished. The excess produce is starting to fall and rot, to give nourishment to the unseen. The days start to shorten and there is less intensity in the weather and more stability. A time to ground, connect and gather in providing an inner totem pole of feeling centred. If out of balance there might be excess worry, stagnation, lack of acceptance that might be experienced through digestive issues. 

The practice is aimed at re-balancing by working on practices that nourish the Earth Element through qigong, breathing, yoga and a slow hold yin practice.

I thought I’d put all these Dana based options together to make it a bit easier to navigate.

But before I go any further I would like to explain a little about the practice of Dana (which for ease I sometimes interchange with donation).

Dana is a Buddhist practice to develop and nurture a deep sense of generosity, kindness and interconnectedness. It is not a matter of simply dropping a few coins in a box or setting up a regular bank transfer (although these acts are greatly appreciated ❤️). Dana is about mindfulness and understanding, it’s an opportunity to recognise what is really on offer and our place in it.

- In a world that finds simplicity and value in price tags, we may need a little encouragement to shift our perspective and open to a felt sense of appreciation which leads to the act of giving.

Dharma Circle is a ‘business’ that relies mainly on the generosity of those who turn up, those who have come to recognise the importance of genuine spiritual life, community and teachings (in all it’s varied and beautiful expressions). Dharma Circle will continue to exists through the generosity and support of YOU and others like you.

Dana, as an act of generosity, can take many forms - obviously, financial donations are very helpful (an amount that feels appropriate for you) but also you can be in touch if you are able to help out in other ways, like tech support, marketing or regular cleaning.

It’s also really helpful if you come along regularly, bring friends and participate in as many of the offerings as possible.

Get your week off to a great start…

Gentle Yoga with Gemma Mondays 10:30 am- 11:45 am 

This class is designed to gently support you to return to the yoga practice that you may have not visited as much this year. To take time to slowly warm and open the muscles and joints, ground your energy, wake up the spine and to feel gently into your body and breath. 

We will explore grounding, seated asana focussing on finding spaciousness in the body, mind and breath. The class will include some gentle vinyasa flows to free up the body and breath as well as some pranayama. This will be a lovely way to prepare your body for a greater sense of easefulness for your day and for midday meditation with Samantha in the studio via zoom directly afterwards. We would love to have you for both sessions! 

We are only permitted to have 10 students in the studio, so booking is essential.
